Detailed
information
Feel yourself refreshed with the exhilaration,
thrills and excitement of a shallow, white water
jet boat ride combined with natural beauty,
stunning scenery, history and economic activity of
one of the best rivers in Tasmania. From the peace
and quiet of drifting alongside Huon Pine trees to
the thrills of 360 degree turns, Huon Jet caters
for all age groups and interests.
On the 12 kilometre tree lined journey upriver
from the Huonville Base, Huon Jet passes
dilapidated jetties, remnants of the early days of
river trade, old houses and open farmland.
Entering sections of fast flowing water and
rapids, the river bottom becomes visible and you
are suddenly aware of the unique and safe handling
abilities of the jet boat. Between the fast flowing
rapids, the dark tranquil waters mirror the
overhanging vegetation and distant mountain ranges,
the reflections only broken by movement of the
wildlife or the jet of white water streaming from
the back of the boat.
On reaching Glen Huon, the turn around point for
your jet boat adventure, the driver signals a
turning motion with his hand and soon throws the
boat into a 360 degree turn and bringing it to a
standstill in a sea of foaming water.
As you regain your breath the driver describes
the journey of the river from its source at Lake
Pedder, deep in Tasmania's South West Wilderness
World Heritage Area. During the return journey the
driver provides information on local agricultural
developments including mushroom farming, spins the
boat a few more times if requested and stops at one
of the few remaining Huon pine trees in the
area.
Huon Jet captures the changing moods of the
river, from sparkling water on summer days to
mirror images of autumn or snow on surrounding
peaks in winter. The only special clothing required
is waterproof jackets if it is raining. Life
jackets and ponchos are supplied.
